The Buc Stops Here

Well, it has been quite a summer for Kingston – from the weather changing constantly to the exciting Fourth of July celebrations. On the nice sunny days, you can always find students at the beach. In the evenings you can find groups of kids at the movie theater. Some travel out of the state or even the country to see relatives, sightsee or just to relax.

Over the summer, sports have been underway. The Kingston High School football team has attended camps and has practice daily. The volleyball team has also been practicing and had weekly games against other high schools. The girls’ soccer team has been practicing and having scrimmages.

Every team has been working hard and in the fall, it will definitely pay off. We are looking at great Buccaneer teams! In July, our very own scoreboard was installed on the Kingston High School’s Buccaneer Field. The first varsity football game of the season kicks off at 5 p.m. at the KHS playing field. KHS will be playing Chimacum High School. All are invited to come see the action! KHS will face North Kitsap High School Sept. 12 at an exciting match-up in North Kitsap Stadium.

KHS fall sports include cross-country, girls’ soccer, girls’ swimming, boys’ tennis and girls’ volleyball. Football practice officially began Aug. 20 and all other teams got underway Aug. 25 with tryouts.

A reminder: to participate in the Buccaneer athletics program, you must have a current physical and all other paperwork turned in. (Physicals are now valid for two years instead of just one.)

Summer is winding down now. Students are wondering where the days went and starting to think about the new school year, student orientation, buying school supplies, wondering whether the increase in lunch prices means more choices.

An open house for students took place Aug. 21 where they picked up class schedules, purchased yearbooks, registered for the Buccaneer teams and paid fees.

When I think back, it is hard to believe that Kingston High School is already starting its second year. With a year’s experience behind us, the year ahead looks very bright. Go Bucs! Welcome to the 2008-09 year!
