Kindergarten registration next month

Kindergarten registration will be held at all North Kitsap School District elementary schools from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 5-9, and on the following evenings at these schools: Breidablik, May 7, 4-7 p.m.; Gordon, May 7, 4-7 p.m.; Pearson, May 6, 4-7 p.m.; Poulsbo, May 8, 4-7 p.m.; Suquamish, May 7, 5-7 p.m.; Vinland, May 7, 5-7 p.m.; Wolfle, May 7, 5-6:30 p.m.

Bring your child’s birth certificate or other proof-of-age document, immunization record, doctor name and phone number, and names and phone numbers of two emergency contacts.

Applications for full-day kindergarten will be available at all elementary schools. Since the state only funds kindergarten for half a day, tuition is charged for the remainder of the school day in order to cover costs. A deposit of $25 must be paid at the time of registration, but will be refunded if there are not enough students to fill a class.

Tuition for next school year will be $3,125.

Last day of school now June 18

The North Kitsap School District announced the last day of school for students will be Wednesday, June 18 rather than Monday, June 16.

The school year was advanced two days to make up for two days of classes missed due to inclement weather Dec. 4 (road concerns and flooding) and Jan. 28 (snow).

Morning kindergarten classes are also extended until June 18.

The district is eligible to apply for a waiver for the Dec. 4 closure due to that day being declared an emergency in Kitsap County by the Governor, but announced it does not plan to apply for the waiver.
