POULSBO — The newest batch of Little Norway’s popular, colorful downtown dwellings has opened its doors officially for business, proving with new, unique and innovative styles, there really is no place like home.

Division 6 of Central Highland Builder’s Poulsbo Place II neighborhoods turned on the lights and switched on the power this month. With a variety of home designs and three model residences dressed in different decor, the stylish suburb is now ready to be toured.

Fifty-two homes are scheduled for the completed Division 6, the make-ups of some of which Elisha Otis would be proud.

“Our three-story units in the back called Cottonwoods all have elevators,” said Central Highland Builders principle David Smith, adding that during a grand opening party Nov. 15 Poulsbo Mayor Kathryn Quade was the first member of the public to officially test the apparatus.

“And it went up and came back down and she got out it safely,” he said with satisfaction.

Quade herself didn’t seem to mind lending a helping hand in testing out the amenity.

“I think it’s a wonderful idea,” she said. “What a great idea for people that might have mobility problems to be able to go directly from the garage up to the kitchen with their groceries and so forth.”

While they’re charming and attractive to view, she added the Poulsbo Place homes are also building up Little Norway’s housing repertoire in a positive manner.

“I have always felt that what’s happening in Poulsbo Place adds to what I would call our inventory options of housing possibilities,” she said. “They’re beautiful units.”

Central Highland Builders principle Barry Keenan said the elevators, which were implemented in one of four Division 6 home layouts, allows any person access in a three-story home.

“It makes the house available to any purchaser,” he said, adding the elevators are just one bonus of the division that is already attracting a large amount of potential buyers. Division 5 is already completely sold out.

Wiggle Paths, or Pocket Parks, too, are an attractive amenity.

“It’s a place that’s a widening in the sidewalk with benches where people can sit and chit chat,” he said of the grassy areas.

Divisions 7 and 8 of Poulsbo Place II are currently in the planning stages. Division 6 can be expected to be completed within the year. Twenty-five of the units are currently under construction, four are built and one tenant has already moved in. Smith said the impending winter isn’t slowing things down.

“There are completions every week now,” he said.

Central Highland Builders is currently offering an upgrade incentive package to buyers, as well as some resale assistance.

“We have a little package of goodies for those that need help reselling their house,” Smith said. “That’s probably the biggest worry of people coming in.”

The first phase of Poulsbo Place homes contains 165 lots. Combined with the 90 constructed and planned for Divisions 5 and 6, the area will boast 255 homes. Plans for Divisions 7 and 8 are not finalized, but include condominium-style structures.
