Editors by and large give suicides a wide berth. Names of the deceased, which are known by students, faculty, family and friends, are sometimes withheld altogether. As if the media itself tries to avoid an issue that impacts its readership.
The thinking behind this is that youths in our society are not smart enough to make their own decisions. That because they read of a suicide in the paper, they will martyrize it, follow suit and take their own lives.
POULSBO — Upon arrival at school Monday, North Kitsap High School students were informed that one of their classmates died over the weekend in what was called an “unfortunate accident.â€

A handful of North End classrooms followed fire prevention maps during October and November to earn the childhood Holy Grail of ice cream. Though they weren’t in need of an Indiana Jones style fedora or whip, and they definitely didn’t have to battle any villans, the kids worked hard nonetheless to prepare themselves in case of a fire.
And they earned a cool treat.

My first reaction to the Sunday snow was purely the kid in me coming out. I pulled on my boots and coat and went racing into my yard to celebrate. My neighbors must have thought I was off my rocker because I jumped around for a little while, enjoying the chilly air and catching snow on my tongue, generally making an idiot of myself.
