Celebration in song

The singers of Lyrica, Ladies Choral Ensemble of Puget Sound have been warming up their vocal chords, preparing for their annual holiday concert. “A Christmas Celebration” takes place 5 p.m. Dec. 10 at St. Gabriel’s Church, 1150 Mitchell Ave., Port Orchard, under the direction of LeeAnne Campos.

The performance is free, but donations for the South Kitsap Family Kitchen will be accepted.

Lyrica has been making music together since 2001, when it was founded by Campos.

She is also Concert Chorale Director for the Bremerton Symphony Orchestra, and a vocal faculty member at her alma mater, Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. She is an adjudicator for regional voice competitions and currently sings with the Tacoma Symphony Chorus.

Lyrica accompanist Debra Stojack is also a PLU graduate and has worked as an accompanist for the past 28 years, including a stint with the Cappella Girls’ Chorus of Port Orchard. She has been an accompanist for the Bremerton Symphony Chorale for the past two seasons.

The Dec. 10 concert includes seasonal songs paired with readings about the birth of Christ from writings by Charles Dickens and traditional gospel readings.

Songs on the program include “Silent Night,” “Carol of the Bells,” and “Ding Dong Merrily on High,” as well as some less familiar works.
