Picnic Pavilion: The permit application has been submitted. Our Kingston-North Kitsap Rotary Club will be funding all materials. Work will probably begin late in June or early in July.
Volunteers will be needed to get the pavilion built. To check out the plans and to volunteer, go to www.kingstonvillagegreen.org.
– P-Patch Garden: Master Gardeners, neighbors, Kingston High School Honors Society students and other volunteers are stepping forward to start the p-patch garden this month. If you want to get involved, go to www.kingstonvillagegreen.org/pp.
Volunteer grantwriters for the Village Green Foundation accepted a $1,500 award from Kitsap Community Foundation for the p-patch; the reviewers loved the joint efforts of so many community partners, and were impressed with the quality of the writing in the application. Special congratulations to Bobbi Wodtli and Jane Mack for this award.
– Tennis courts: As reported last month, the Village Green Foundation’s local partner in the park, the Metropolitan Park District, took ownership of the property from Kitsap County in May. As reported in May, construction on the senior housing project will begin this summer, and although the tennis courts will mainly be open, there will be a need for safety-related closures that the MPD will be notified of in advance.
In June, we will prepare for the construction and the closures by moving the entrance to the courts over to the West Kingston Road side of the courts. A door that can be closed will also be installed on that side of the courts. Go to www.myvillagegreen.org to pose any questions about the tennis courts.
