Letters to the Editor, May 1

an invitation to

The Honorable President Obama:

We are sending you only the tag from my tea bag, as we are being told the staff is concerned about tea bag contamination. With all the debt being placed upon us through the unconstitutional programs and policies of both parties, we are grateful to have the tea bag to use as well.

The Declaration of Independence tells us that the Creator (God) endows us with “certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” and that the purpose of government is to “secure those rights.” Further, when any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the “right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government” to secure those unalienable rights.

Americans, in general, see only a few changes needed in the current Constitution. They see both parties violating the Ninth and 10th Amendments by instituting programs that are not explicitly authorized, causing out of control spending and loss of states’ rights.

You, as President, are not to legislate, but to preside over the constitutional laws passed by Congress. Congress is to coin money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign coin, and fix the standard of weights and measures. Congress is not to delegate those duties to other entities, including the Federal Reserve, which is neither federal, nor a reserve. It is in the interest of the Federal Reserve to create out of control spending, for they receive their wealth from the interest on our money.

We remind you, Mr. President, that we are a unique country. Our rights come, not from man, nor government, but from the creator. Governments are to secure those rights. Americans do not want to meld with other nations in a one-world currency, nor in one-world government. Hopefully, you will recognize the uprising of Americans against tyrannical government. You have the power to reverse the damage done from years of unconstitutional policies and programs. You can become the servant of the people.

It is possible to eliminate the unconstitutional Federal Reserve, then to restore control of state and local governments. State constitutional infrastructures could receive no, or very low interest loans for projects, to be paid back to the federal government. People in local governments could vote to levy themselves for infrastructures, with the same no, or low, interest rates. That way, employment would be increased, and the repayment of levies would keep the money in circulation.

Burrata Bistro is terrific

Burrata Bistro is a terrific restaurant and a great addition to Old Town Poulsbo. I own and run a bed and breakfast north of town, The Green Cat Guest House, and we send our guests regularly to Old Town to shop, dine and experience the best of Poulsbo.

Profanity in public

How about showing a little restraint?

About two weeks ago someone spraypainted certain words on the concrete at Kingston Skate Park. Unmentionable words. They are where any passing person or vehicle can see them clearly. I have re-routed a NKSD elementary bus because young students kept asking me what the words meant. I kept thinking that the county was going to deal with it but, two weeks later, they are still there.

I called Kitsap County Parks and Recreation and the receptionist assured me that the skate park was their responsibility. I left two messages for the supervisor but I’ve yet to get a return call.

This Easter weekend I finally went to Henery’s Hardware for black spraypaint (happily donated by them for the cause, by the way) and spraypainted all the words I could. Once I actually walked into the skate park what I read there that wasn’t visible from the street made me ill. Usually the art work there is colorful, interesting and harmless. However, these words should have been taken care of day one. It made the town of Kingston seem irresponsible, apathetic and it made me ashamed to see them there. And not much shakes me; I’m a pretty hard case.

So, a note to parents of the young people who frequent this skate park: If you knew what they were reading on the cement there, you would be astonished and sickened. If you did know, I hope that you at least called the county. And to all the young skaters/bikers: please don’t accept the condition of your park being less than a cool/clean/fun place for you to hang out. It makes you all look bad, even if you didn’t write those things. It’s demeaning to all of you. And, if you know who did it, do the right think and drop a quarter to the Sheriff’s Dept. Be a stand-up person.

15th Annual Easter Candy Hunt at Raab Park

On April 11, Poulsbo Parks and Recreation hosted the 15th annual Easter Candy Hunt up at Raab Park. There were more than 200 children, plus their parents, who participated in the scramble. This event would not be possible without our sponsors. We would like to thank the Poulsbo Lions Club, the Poulsbo-NK Rotary Club, and volunteers from the Leo Club for their donations and continued support at the event. These organizations continue to give to our community year after year, and we thank you for everything you do.
