Letter: Focus on better bus service, not passenger only ferry

Once again Kitsap Transit orchestrated funding for a fast ferry. The funds cannot be used to increase bus service which Kitsap County so desperately needs. Thanks, John Clauson, “Passenger-only ferry debate rife with myths, misconceptions” (April 1, 2016) for ignoring the needs of bus riders. The transfer center in Silverdale has two portable potties. Such elegance.

Already, housing costs are making it difficult for the poor to live in Kitsap. Bringing fast ferries back will increase property values, housing costs, making the situation worse. The poor are Mr. Clauson’s customers, too. Why make life difficult for us?

We don’t even have Sunday bus service. Service is very limited on Saturdays.  Almost non-existent after about 8:30 p.m. on weekdays. Let’s think of the people who pay Kitsap Transit salaries — riders — first, Mr. Clauson. WSF won’t touch passenger-only ferries. Seattle riders weren’t sufficient to replace the boats. They are the ferry entity.

Vote no on passenger-only ferries.
