The news of Ghostly studies at Port Gamble (Herald of October 2) made interesting reading but I was of two minds as to its merits. First, it is great that that charming little town has found one more way to attract visitors who spend their money in North Kitsap. It should all be innocent fun. After all who doesn’t enjoy ghost stories, carnival fun houses, and scary movies?

But on second thought I was distressed that the Herald took much of this nonsense seriously. I have never heard of a single adequately controlled experiment that could prove that the paranormal, ghosts, spirits, psychic mediums, the tooth fairy, or even Charlie Brown’s Great Pumpkin have any basis in reality. A public spirited newspaper such as the Herald should not lend credence to such superstitious nonsense.
