Artists swim through the garden at BAC

In the back room of Bainbridge Arts and Crafts — through the enchanting world of Little and Lewis — there’s an equally enthralling exhibit this month.
It’s called ‘The Swimming Pool.’
Ten BAC artists muse in painting, digital prints, collage, photography and assemblage on what Seattle glass artist Karen Buhler notes as the ultimate luxurious experience.
Buhler’s lampworked swimmers — playfully sophisticated statuettes born of pirex glass rods, fashioned in swim caps, goggles and transparently opaque suits — pose at the entrance of the exhibit. Photographer Colleen Meacham’s ‘Scattered Light Series’ — in which the she takes her camera to the pool — provide a fitting backdrop.
“I found the change in color, diffusion and other changes of refracted light in the pool enhanced the joy of photographing while swimming (and of swimming while photographing),” Meacham writes in her thoughts on the show.
Meanwhile, across the room, Sally Robison evokes the pleasures of lap swimming, sunny afternoons and skinny dipping in her digitized paintings, asking “What is it about a swimming pool that returns you so swiftly to your youth?”
‘The Swimming Pool’ and Little and Lewis’ ‘Transitions’ will hang through the end of the month at BAC, 151 Winslow Way on Bainbridge. Info: www.bacart.org.
