PORT ORCHARD — Registration is open for volunteers wishing to participate in the annual Kitsap County Point-In-Time Count, which is an effort from Jan. 21-24 to account for people living without homes.

Kitsap County’s Department of Human Services Housing and Homelessness Division is joined with the Kitsap Housing and Homelessness Coalition to conduct the count. No experience is necessary to participate. Those interested can find out more at kcowa.us/kitsap-pit.

The two organizations are inviting citizens from all walks of life who want to help alleviate homelessness to take part. Training will be provided to those who participate. The deadline for volunteer registration is Jan. 5.

Basic data collected during the annual count is used to provide local, state and federal government funders about the scope of homelessness in Kitsap County. The data is used to channel funding and other resources to local communities and help people exit homelessness.
