Poulsbo fire commissioner elected secretary/treasurer of statewide organization

POULSBO — Poulsbo Fire Commissioner David Ellingson becomes secretary/treasurer of the Washington Fire Commissioners Association on Jan. 1.
Ellingson became involved in the fire service when he was elected a commissioner of Poulsbo Fire Department/Kitsap County Fire District No. 18 in 1999. Since then, he has served as board chairman and is currently the board’s financial officer. He is president of the Kitsap County Fire Commissioners Association, and is a member of Kitsap County’s 911 policy board.
Poulsbo Fire Administrative Services/Human Resource Manager Lise Alkire said of Ellingson, “[He] has first-hand knowledge of the challenges that face emergency services in today’s economy.”
Ellingson has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master of science degree in systems management. He retired in 2012 after a 42-year civilian career with the Navy’s Strategic Systems Program Office in Washington, D.C., and the Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific at Naval Base Kitsap — Bangor.
In addition to his duties with the local board of fire commissioners, Ellingson represents the Washington Fire Commissioners Association on the state Department of Labor and Industries’ Firefighter Technical Review Committee.
