SK loses Homecoming game to Curtis 41-15

The South Kitsap Wolves (3-2) fell short against one of the top teams in the state during its Homecoming game Oct. 3, losing to Curtis (4-1) 41-15.

SK has dropped its first two league games, losing against Sumner 63-3 Sept. 26, but has otherwise beaten all of its previous opponents by multiple scores.

“We’re building it the right way,” Wolves coach Sean Banks said. “The kids are doing what we’re asking them to do. They’re working really hard.”

SK went three-and-out on its first offensive drive of the game, but found its first score off a touchdown pass from quarterback Franklin Fox to wide receiver Kyler Kelly after the Vikings scored a touchdown, making the score of the game 7-7. However, the SK defense let up another touchdown to Curtis near the end of the first quarter, giving the Vikings a 14-7 lead.

SK ran a fake punt halfway through the second quarter to running back Brayden Moore in an attempt to swing momentum in their favor and successfully converted, keeping their drive alive. Nonetheless, the drive stalled after an unsuccessful goal-line attempt.

Curtis led at halftime 21-7.

“If you can get off the field like [in] the first half on a couple of third and sevens; we got to cover the back of the screen right there,” Banks said. “I love our guys, but that’s a do your job [situation].”

Curtis scored another touchdown on their opening drive of the second half, which lasted over seven minutes, increasing the lead to 28-7.

Moore rattled off a long run to get the Wolves to the goal line, where Fox ran it in for SK’s second touchdown of the game. Moore drove it in for the two-point conversion, making the score of the game 34-15. Curtis added another late touchdown.

“I just told the kids ‘hey, we just got beat,’” Banks said. “We stood and punched, but if you’re gonna beat a top team in the state, whatever you wanna call it, you gotta play damn near perfect.”
