NK swimmers advance in five events; Kingston’s Velie advances in breaststroke | 2A Girls State Swimming Championships

North Kitsap swimmers advanced to the finals in five events, and Kingston freshman swimmer Claudia Velie advanced in the 100-yard breaststroke, in the prelims of the 2A Girls State Swimming & Diving Championships, Nov. 13 at the King County Aquatics Center.

FEDERAL WAY – North Kitsap swimmers advanced to the finals in five events, and Kingston freshman swimmer Claudia Velie advanced in the 100-yard breaststroke, in the prelims of the 2A Girls State Swimming & Diving Championships, Nov. 13 at the King County Aquatics Center.

The finals begin at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 14.

Velie finished the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.83, 1 second faster than her seeded time and good enough for seventh. Top finisher Yanran Le of Squalicum finished in 1:05.55.

In the 200 medley relay, North Kitsap’s Hannah Ufens, Ellie Gallagher, Izy Iral and Dannica Hennings finished seventh with a time of 1:58.34.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Iral, Hennings, Isabel Hendryx and Serita Solis finished fifth with a time of 1:44.04.

In individual events: Solis, a senior, finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.35, then followed up with a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.75. Hendryx finished fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.85.

The top eight swimmers or relays in each event during prelims advance to the finals.
