KINGSTON — The Kingston High girls basketball team finished its regular season in style, beating Bremerton’s Lady Knights 68-43 Tuesday.

Laura Wicklein put up 18 points to lead the Buccaneers and Sophia Baetz added 16 of her own. Elle Sander did her part by hauling in 16 rebounds on the night.

“It was a good game to play at the end of the season,” said Kingston head coach Kevin Strozier.

The Bucs (15-5; 13-3 league) currently sit in second place in the Olympic League, just behind Port Angeles. Their next game will be March 3, against an opponent yet to be determined. In the meantime, the girls will enjoy a couple days off before getting back to intensive practices to prepare for district playoffs.

“Right now, we’re trying to play at another level to get ready for the districts,” said Strozier.

Strozier says there are some areas where his team could do better, but over all he is pleased with the way they have played this season.

“Our effort level has been real good at times when we needed it most,” he said. “We’re right where we thought we could be.”
