Vikes send three wrestlers toMat Classic
North Kitsap is sending three wrestlers to the state tournament this weekend at the Tacoma Dome.
Justin Swansboro will compete in the 152-pound weight class, while Megan Evans and Emilie Poffenroth will wrestle in the 125- and 119-pound divisions, respectively.
The three had a strong showing in the regional match-ups, where they qualified for this weekend’s Mat Classic.
NK wrestling coach Joe Amick said his wrestlers have practiced hard all season, and he expects them to be psyched up for the tournament.
“They should be ready,” said Amick. “I expect them to be excited and pumped up and prepared.”
NK girls hoops finish strong
The North Kitsap girls basketball team wrapped up regular season play by routing North Mason 60-40 Tuesday night in Poulsbo.
Darcey Hughes led the Vikings with a triple-double and then some. She had 22 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, seven steals and six blocks. Delanee Nilles added to that with nine points, 13 boards and seven steals.
The Vikings finished the regular season in third place in the Olympic League, with a 12-4 record.
North faces Olympic today at 5:15 p.m. at Bremerton High.
KHS gymnast going to state
Kingston gymnast Dana VanWyck will compete in the state gymnastics meet today and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
After a phenomenal season, VanWyck qualified for state on floor, vault and uneven bars.
NK Chaos advances to state cup final
NKSC Chaos ‘93, advanced to the final of the Washington Youth Soccer Fred Meyer Commissioners’ Cup Saturday in Tukwila.
The match takes place at 9 a.m. on the Stadium Field at the Starfire Sports Complex at 14800 Starfire Way. Chaos girls take on Crossfire Select (Ulkekul).
Chaos outscored its previous four opponents by a 14-1 margin in this year’s tournament.
Kingston boys fall to Bremerton
The Kingston High School boys basketball team ended their season at the bottom of the Olympic League after a 69-51 loss at Bremerton Tuesday.
“We played them real tough in the first half,” said head coach Tim Olson. “We’ve been improving ever since the program started two years ago.”
The Buccaneers finished the regular season at 1-19 overall, with a 1-15 league record.
Olson hopes to see more participants in summer basketball clinics gearing up for next season.
KMS defeats PMS
The Kingston Middle School girls basketball team defeated rival Poulsbo Middle School 58-38 Feb. 12 at Kingston.
Amanda Carper led the Cavaliers with 19 points and nine rebounds. Elizabeth Townsend and Christine Van Deen added nine rebounds apiece.
Leah Baugh led Poulsbo with 16 points.
Kingston hosted Woodward Thursday, and Poulsbo played Mountainview, results weren’t available at press time.
Vball tourney slated
Olympic Premier Volleyball Clubs host a 16-team U-16 tournament Saturday at the Kitsap Pavilion in Bremerton. The Force, a U-15 team comprised of 11 players from eight local high schools, will participate in the all day tournament.
Admission to Saturday’s event is free.
