POULSBO — Here are a couple photos from the “Under the Lights” flag football championship games, held March 31 at North Kitsap Stadium in Poulsbo. This was the first time Poulsbo has hosted the event. League Commissioner Russ Shiplet said it was a major success, not just for the kids involved, but for the community.

“For the first nine weeks of the season, there was a lot of communication to me that [community members] hope it comes back next season,” he said.

The event itself was open to children in grades K-8. Shiplet said 110 boys and girls came out during the season to be a part of it and he hopes that based on the feedback he’s received from the community, it will be returning to North Kitsap next year.

“Yes, it’s a competitive league — we advertise it as that,” he said. “There’s only one winner. But at the same time, the coaches are coached up on providing the fundamentals and helping students understand the game first and foremost.”
