Booth’s hat trick leads SK to first win of season

The Wolves tallied five different goal scorers in their first win of the season Sept. 16, as South Kitsap dominated Graham-Kapowsin at home 7-0.

Sophomore midfielder Jenna Booth led the way with three goals on the night. Coming into the match, SK had not scored a goal all season.

“We [were] still trying to move players around, really trying to use speed more and find that space,” SK coach Randi Gunyan said.

SK kept the ball in Eagle territory for a majority of the first 10 minutes of the game, generating many early shots on goal and establishing an aggressive offensive tempo.

The Wolves’ defense also served them well early on, not allowing a shot on goal from Graham-Kapowsin until the 31-minute mark in the first half.

SK wing Chloe Legan managed to put in the first goal of the season for the Wolves, giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead with 22 minutes remaining in the half.

Fellow SK wing Sylvi Allen put in another goal for the Wolves, giving them an early 2-0 lead with 20 minutes remaining in the first half.

The Wolves continued their aggression on offense with Booth putting in yet another goal toward the end of the half, giving SK a three-goal lead.

“We’re working more as a team,” Booth said. “We just realized we can’t do it all ourselves, and we have to play as a team to create opportunities.”

Booth scored another goal for SK off a penalty kick early in the second half, giving the Wolves a 4-0 lead. The Eagles continued to struggle to do anything to combat what the Wolves were throwing their way.

SK winger Mia Smalley put in yet another goal for the Wolves, giving SK four different scorers on the night and increasing their lead to 5-0 with 25 minutes remaining.

Wolf winger Kylee Hamilton-Nation added to that with an additional goal for SK, continuing the Wolves’ strong offensive output and making the lead 6-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Booth added one more under the two-minute warning to secure a hat trick, cementing SK’s first victory at 7-0.
