While black cats may be the most familiar feline associated with the month of October, Verksted Gallery in Poulsbo features a wide range of cats, with a month-long “CAT-itudes of October” show.

Featured artists during October are Eileen Sorg, Karen Lyman, Barbara Weingart and Laura Mosley, but there are opportunities for the public to contribute art as well.

Bring a 4×6 inch photo of your cat — or someone else’s if you don’t have one or your cat’s camera shy — and enter it in the Phat Cat Photo Contest.

Entries will be accepted through Oct. 20. It must be original and not digitally altered. The public will then vote for their favorite through Oct. 30.

The Grand Prize is a limited edition cat print by portrait artist Eileen Sorg. First through third prizes will be awarded as well.

There is also a Cat Coloring Contest with all ages welcome to participate. That’s, drawings of cats, not on cats or cats coloring.

Sorg will be at the gallery Oct. 21 to demonstrate her techniques for life-like pet portraiture using colored pencil, India ink and watercolor.
