SUQUAMISH — The Suquamish Tribe will hold its annual Renewal Pow-wow March 24 and 25, celebrating the start of spring and promoting healthy lifestyles.
The tribe has invited residents from many different communities and nations to participate and various drumming and dancing groups will be traveling to the area for the event, said organizer James Old Coyote.
Red Bull from Saskatchewan will be the host drum, and is said to be one of the top drumming groups in the United States.
“Some of the top drums in the country are going to be there,” Old Coyote said. “We’re also going to have a Jackpot Dance competition, where different dancers compete with each other and win a jackpot prize.”
The grand entry for the pow-wow will be at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 24, and noon on March 25. Anyone interested can attend the event at the Suquamish Tribal Center Gym, 15838 Sandy Hook Road.
“The Renewal Pow-wow is like having springtime start,” Old Coyote said. “It’s a time to celebrate sobriety, life, health, whatever is being renewed.”
