SR 3 discussion gets rolling…

Glad to hear that more than 100 locals attended the Washington State Department of Transportation’s recent discussion concerning Highway 3. But if WSDOT really wants to drive its point home on the needed improvements, it should schedule its next meeting on a sunny Friday afternoon this summer.

With the bridge up, it’d take many motorists an additional 45 minutes to get to Kitsap Memorial State Park. But then again, most residents from North Kitsap and beyond are very well atuned to traffic jams, slow downs and accidents that occur all too frequently on one of our busiest thoroughfares. We hope WSDOT continues to listen well to our concerns and needs on this one.

It sounds like they’re off to a pretty good start but to ensure the engine doesn’t stall and the 20-year plan doesn’t end up on the side of the road, the public will have to show its devotion to improving the stretch and keep up its strong showings at these sessions.

That’s typically the key that keeps issues such as these chugging forward instead of stuck in gridlock. Sure, attending numerous meetings on one topic is a serious time commitment, but — then again — so is driving SR 3 nowadays.
