Sign ordinance to be discussed Oct. 6

Kitsap County's proposed sign code update will be up for public comments.

Public comment will be taken at the Kitsap County Commissioners meeting on Oct. 6 regarding the county’s proposed new sign ordinance.

The hearing will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. in the commissioner chambers at the Kitsap County Administration Building, 614 Division St., in Port Orchard.

The ordinance has been in the making for more than a year and received preliminary approval by the commission in August.

The following items could be considered major changes from the Preliminary Draft Sign Code: Electronic signs would be restricted to only non-residential zones within an Urban Growth Area except for schools, churches, and government or quasi-government signs would be allowed in any zone within an Urban Growth Area; Non-conforming sign amortization: Legally non-conforming signs would be required to come into conformance after 10 years from the adoption date of the new code.

The draft ordinance is available for review at www.kitsapgov.com. under the community development department tab.
