Ride the Comanche to Tacoma

The Comanche will leave Bremerton for the winter but will return next May

Friday Oct. 10 will be the last day the Comanche will be open for visitors at Bremerton in 2014.

The historic 1944 World War II US Navy 143′ rescue tug, recipient of a Battle Star for combat, and former U.S. Coast Guard search and rescue Cutter WMEC 202 Comanche museum ship will return to Tacoma’s Tyee Marina on Oct. 11 for the winter.

The Comanche is the only Coast Guard recognized historic nonprofit public accessible Medium Endurance Cutter on the West Coast.

On board are displays of the Coast Guard’s work in World War II. Comanche’s home base is the Bremerton Marina where it is part of a growing fleet of historic ships.

In May 2015, it will return to Bremerton. There is no charge to visit ship and those interested in riding it from Bremerton to Tacoma are welcome.
