Poulsbo should get informed

Whether or not residents of the fair city of Poulsbo are shaking their heads at city council for passing the burden of the municipal campus location onto their shoulders, it is now paramount that they own up to the responsibility by getting informed. By default, it’s their civic duty. In the next several weeks they’ll have plenty of opportunities to study the issue at hand.

Hopefully they will do so and treat the location of the new Poulsbo City Hall as they would any other election, weighing the pros and cons of each.

The city’s Web site has a balanced look at the 10th Avenue and Jensen Way sites and is an excellent scale. But whether most residents will visit Project Poulsbo online and view the comparison of “potential City Hall sites on Tenth Avenue and Jenson (sic) Way in Downtown” has yet to be seen. Will every citizen delve into the Preliminary Site Cost Comparison, Preliminary Economic Impact Assessment and Qualitative Comparison to get educated on both sites?

Not likely, but they should. Or at the very least touch on the highlights of each before casting their votes.

The big question right now is how many of Poulsbo’s voters care — really care — one way or the other if city hall lands on 10th Avenue or Jensen? Sure there are groups promoting both sites and campaigns are being waged but what of the general public?

Such answers should become readily apparent as meetings and informal gatherings on the issue are held.

In the coming weeks it will be revealed whether the council should have bitten the bullet and made the call or loaded it into the public’s pistol with the hope that voters would take proper aim before firing.

The information is out there.

Will Poulsbo residents get informed?
