Port of Kingston hopes to fill boat for special events trips

KINGSTON — The SoundRunner passenger ferry will make a special run to Seattle on Dec. 26, that is if it can sell 100 tickets.

The Boxing Day sailing and a Jan. 2 sailing for the Seattle Seahawks football game will help the Port of Kingston test interest for special event trips and draw attention to the service, port Commissioner Pete DeBoer said. The trips will only be made if the port can get 100 riders onboard for each sailing.

The Spirit of Kingston has returned to port after undergoing repairs in Seattle but the Kingston Express will be used for the special sailings, DeBoer said. Regular SoundRunner service has been suspended since Nov. 18. The port hasn’t determined when it will relaunch.
