POULSBO — A wave of public support washed into the North Kitsap School District board meeting Thursday night, voicing its concern over a recent suggestion that the community pool be closed.
BAGHDAD, IRAQ — Since Fort Bragg, N.C. and neighboring Pope Air Force Base are home to several of the most highly deployed units in the U.S. military including the 82nd Airborne Division and the U.S. Army Special Forces Command, Poulsbo’s Jarred Taylor not only knew he would be out on the front lines, he embraced the idea.

POULSBO — The waters in the North Kitsap Community pool are cooler than they once were but issues surrounding its maintenance and operation costs are reaching a rolling boil.
BAGHDAD, IRAQ — Even before the World Trade Center towers collapsed on Sept. 11, 2001, Jarred Taylor knew his place was out on the front lines in the war on terror and not nestled in the peaceful surroundings of Little Norway.
Taylor, the son of Kent and Simone Taylor of Poulsbo, was recently recognized for his valorous action in the Sadr City neighborhood of Baghdad, Iraq by the British Royal Air Force.
POULSBO — Even though State Rep. Sherry Appleton’s request for “the god of rains” to give Little Norway a break during Viking Fest didn’t come true, the weekend showers failed to dampen the spirit of the celebration.
“I think it’s been highly successful,” Viking Fest executive secretary Kathi Foresee said. “It’s been good.”
POULSBO — Local lutefisk eating legend Eric Perkins almost regretted encouraging Jake Watrous to enter Sunday’s Viking Fest lutefisk eating contest at the Kvelstad Pavilion.
Before bowing out at the three-and-a-half-pound mark, Watrous put a scare into both Perkins and reigning champion, Puyallup’s Charles Jensen. Even so, Jensen retained his title by consuming more than four pounds. Perkins literally lost his ‘fisk as he finished second for the second straight year.
KINGSTON — The North Kitsap School District didn’t have to look far to find its newest administrator, choosing Suquamish Elementary counselor Jackie Finckler as the assistant principal position at Spectrum Community School and Kingston High School.
“I am excited. I think it combines a number of my strengths,” Finckler said. “I am looking forward to it.”
SUQUAMISH — Suquamish students are going to see just how far $500,000 will go before the sidewalk ends — it could take them all the way to school safely.

SUQUAMISH — The Suquamish Tribe has a lot to be proud of, and it showed that pride May 17 during an afternoon lunch when it presented the first economic impact study for 2006. Heralding such visitors as 23rd District Representatives Sherry Appleton and Christine Rolfes, Poulsbo Mayor Kathryn Quade, Poulsbo Councilman Jim Henry, Suquamish Tribe Executive Director Wayne George and many other tribal members and local government officials, the tribe and Port Madison Enterprises showed how much they have grown and helped Kitsap County since 2001.
