New solutions for Old Town

Poulsbo just might slay future “Monster Houses” yet, protecting its historic Old Town district from further encroachment of these beasts that all but engulf the community feel of the neighborhoods in which they are located.

Along Fjord Drive, the city’s shield has already taken serious blows and chinks of its armor litter the street. A few monsters have set up lairs there and aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon.

Despite taking the blow, Poulsbo is also taking corrective action to ensure that other like-neighborhoods retain their character. City staff, residents and consultants are collaborating to patch the shield, reforge the sword and recreate the armor that will safeguard more than 100 acres from living amongst the monsters.

It is an invaluable thing they do but they must tread somewhat lightly and not be overly tempted to step on the rights of property owners.

It will be difficult to find a balance in this matter. On one end of the pole rests total protection for Old Town, on the other, property owner rights.

As the city starts to walk the tightwire on this one (in full armor no less) it truly must watch where it’s going and consider where it’s been.

We’re sure it can attain this and applaud the community effort that has taken place to get the neighborhood to this point in the journey.
