Get to the market for Friends’ book sale
The annual book sale of the Kingston Friends of the Library during the Kingston Farmers Market takes place 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19. The market is located in Mike Wallace Park at the Port of Kingston marina.
This is the Friends’ biggest book sale of the year. Enjoy the market, marina, live music and fresh air while shopping for good buys on a huge collection of books.
Prices are $1 for hardbacks, large paperback, CDs, tapes and DVDs; $.50 for small paperback; and children’s paperbacks $.25 to $.50.
Donations of the above are still needed for the sale to benefit the Friends of the Library and may be dropped off at the library during hours of operation.

Little Boston library

The Little Boston Book Discussion Group meets at 11 a.m. July 2 to discuss “Country of Pointed Firs” by Sarah Orne Jewett.
Crafternoons at the Library meets at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesdays this month, July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. Bring handwork projects, look at craft books in the library collection and have a fun time with others.
Family Game Night takes place 6-7:30 p.m. July 9. All ages are welcome. Join friends and fellow library patrons for an evening of cards, puzzles, and board games. Play games the library has or bring your own. Light refreshments will be served.
Special Summer Reading events, hosted at the Tribal Center, take place at 1:30 p.m. featuring Nancy Stewart July 15 and Jeff Evans July 29.
Teen Mystery Night takes place at 6 p.m. July 15. Come down and help solve a who-dun-it mystery. Costumes are encouraged.
A Teen Rock Tournament takes place at 6 p.m. July 29. Be a rock star, no instruments required! Come compete against other teens with interactive video game Rock Band.
Concert in the Park at Buck Lake July 5
Concert in the Park at Buck Lake Park is a once-a-year event to show appreciation to residents and volunteers of the Greater Hansville Area and takes place 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 5.
Plenty of great music will be provided by Ranger & the Re-Arrangers, gypsy jazz fiddle;
Eric “Two Scoops” Moore, blues, swing, boogie-woogie, rock ‘n’ roll; Rod Cook and Toast, blues, rock, country, jazz, bluegrass; and Kat Spitz, local singer and songwriter.
A BBQ with bratwurst, burgers and beverages is also offered. Neighbors are asked to bring salads and desserts to round out the feast.
There will also be games, clowns and North Kitsap Fire & Rescue with one of their engines. Custom cars and motorcycles will be on display.
Sunshine Ladies
hold rummage sale
The Sunshine Ladies of Kingston’s Redeemer United Methodist Church of will hold their annual “Second Time Around” rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 11 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday July 12.
Funds raised go toward community needs and other programs.
Redeemer Church is located at Shorty Campbell Road off Parcell Road from Highway 104.
English classes available
The English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program at Olympic College assists non-native English speakers to improve their English listening comprehension, reading, writing and speaking skills
Daytime and evening classes are available, held in Poulsbo, Bremerton, Belfair and Shelton, and may be available at no cost.

Nearshore assessment begins on Hood Canal
From Foulweather Bluff near Hansville to the Kitsap-Mason county line, teams of researchers will be walking along the 66 miles of saltwater beaches of Hood Canal from now until September, collecting data on nearshore habitat. An open house was held June 24 in Driftwood Key and another will be 4-7 p.m. July 16 at Scenic Beach State Park in Seabeck. Headed by Kitsap County’s Environmental Programs Division, the “West Kitsap Hood Canal Nearshore Assessment” invites people to learn more the project.
