KT board approves new simulator for bus operators

The Kitsap Transit board approved a resolution to design and install a new simulator for bus operators and awarded a new contract to inspect and repair M.V. Commander at its June 3 meeting.

The new simulator will replicate the Silverdale Transit Center inductive charging facilities and allow operators to practice parking buses on the charging points. The project will cost $168,000 and bolster the charging capabilities of the electric bus fleet, per KT documents.

The board unanimously approved a resolution authorising a repair contract for the M.V. Commander. The contract is awarded to Nichols Brothers Boat Builders to inspect and repair the vessel for $1,441,466, per agency documents.

Clauson said the inter-passenger ferry study previously approved by the board in May is currently underway. KT is looking for public input regarding service options, which will be collected by the agency and later reviewed by the board, he said.

Between Jan. 1 and March 31, KT reported 342,651 passenger boarding’s for routed buses system wide. Due to poor weather including snow, throughout February, KT reported lower totals as a result.
