Kitsap County Solid Waste Division updates for July 4 weekend

The Olympic View Transfer Station will be the only Kitsap County waste and recycling facility open July 4, according to the Solid Waste Division.

The other county facilities in Hansville, Silverdale and Ollala will be closed for the holiday but will resume their regular schedule afterward. Other waste and recycling facilities such as the Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Bremerton and the Bainbridge Island Transfer Station, which is privately owned, will also be closed July 4.

The Kitsap County Solid Waste Division is also advising folks to soak used fireworks and “duds” in water for at least 15 minutes before disposing as facility attendants will be screening loads for potential fire hazards.

Holiday weekends are among the busiest times for waste and recycling facilities so expect longer wait times, a press release states. The heaviest traffic is typically from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Due to the county’s scrap metal hauler’s holiday schedule, the scrap metal containers may close at Olympic View Transfer Station and the Silverdale Recycling and Garbage Facility in the days before or after a holiday. If the containers are closed when you arrive, the Solid Waste Division advises not to leave scrap metal on the ground, but rather pay for your disposal, wait another day or go to a private scrap metal recycler instead.

Additionally, July 4 curbside pickup for Waste Management, City of Poulsbo and Bainbridge Disposal customers will see no changes to their current schedules.
