Iverson Street reopened, traffic back to normal

POULSBO — Things were pretty much back to normal Monday morning as commuters found State Route 305 at its normal flow. POULSBO — Things were pretty much back to normal Monday morning as commuters found State Route 305 at its normal flow.

Iverson Street between 8th Avenue and the highway reopened Friday night after being closed since Sept. 11.

“The only problem we’re having is with the left turn signal, but that should be fixed soon,” Poulsbo City Engineer Andrzej Kasiniak said Monday.

Crews from Stan Palmer Construction of Port Orchard are still cleaning up the site and tying it all together, but the culvert installation has been completed, Kasiniak said.

The next part of the project, which will continue through winter, is the installation of retaining walls along various sections of the highway, he said.

“On the west side, they will be doing several small retaining walls from the Kitsap Transit transfer center to Harrison Street,” he said.

Crews will do their best to keep business accesses open, but periodically some driveways will be closed, he said.

“There are no road closures, but there will be some shifts from left to right and right to left,” he said.

Crews will also be working on the retaining wall on the east side of the highway that runs from behind Schuck’s Auto Supply to just south of Bond Road, he said.

The Washington State Department of Transportation and the contractor are working to provide the city with a new construction schedule, so the public will be better informed about any possible impacts from construction, Kasiniak said.

The next road closures for the project won’t occur until 2007, when fish-friendly culverts will be installed at the Bond Road/SR 305 intersection.
