Distracted driver veers off highway, strikes tree near Bremerton

A 41-year-old Silverdale resident was charged Wednesday with using a personal electronic device while driving after veering off the road and striking a tree while northbound on State Route 3 near Bremerton.

According to a Washington State Patrol memo, the 2001 BMW X5 came to rest on its side after striking the tree. The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was transported to St. Michael’s Medical Center in Bremerton. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
