SILVERDALE – H&M, one of the world’s largest fashion retailers famous for offering fashion-forward apparel at affordable prices, has officially announced a new 23,000-square-foot location at Kitsap Mall. At noon on Dec. 17, the new location at Kitsap Mall will join the eight other H&M destinations in the state of Washington.

“H&M is especially excited to expand its reach in Washington, an important market for the retailer,” the company stated in a press release.

The new H&M location will offer Silverdale residents a one-stop shopping destination for quality family clothing, with collections ranging from ladies, men, young ladies, and young men to separate “store within a store” sections for accessories, maternity, sport apparel, and its plus-size line, called H&M+. The Kitsap Mall location will also carry H&M’s children’s collection, from newborn to fourteen years.

With the opening of the Kitsap Mall store, H&M will add about 30 employees to the current total of approximately 16,000 U.S. employees. The brand continues to grow in both new and existing markets while remaining focused on quality, high profitability, and sustainability. For available job opportunities, visit career.hm.com.

Since H&M opened the doors to its first US store on New York’s Fifth Avenue 15 years ago, the U.S. has been one of the retailer’s most successful markets. It has 407 locations across the country.

H&M is short for “Hennes & Mauritz.” In 1947, a woman’s clothing store called “Hennes” opened in Sweden. Hennes is Swedish for “hers.” In 1968 the hunting and fishing equipment store Mauritz Widforss was purchased, and sales of men’s and children’s clothing were added to the product line. The name of the store was then changed to Hennes & Mauritz, or H&M.

H&M is an American Red Cross Disaster Responder Partner, who this year also will be supporting the Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign, which enables Americans to give during the holiday season. At this store opening, H&M will invite the public to write messages of thanks, encouragement and holiday cheer in cards that will be distributed by the Red Cross to members of our U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and military families, many of whom are stationed far from home. Through H&M’s partnership with the Red Cross, a local Red Cross representative will be available at the event to speak about the partnership, to help staff write holiday cards and to assist customers in line prior to the store’s opening with writing messages to the men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The brand is actively working to ensure that both new and existing stores are sustainable in the long term. Initiatives include recycling waste, utilizing water and energy efficient systems, and selecting environmentally responsible materials such as certified wood and fabrics.

As one of the world’s largest retailers famous for their fashion-forward apparel and quality basics, H&M was the largest organic cotton user in the world in 2013. H&M is committed to exclusively using organic cotton in all of its collections by 2020. The Kitsap Mall store will offer the latest in sustainable fashion as part of the spring 2016 collection.

To celebrate the new store, the H&M at Kitsap Mall will offer the first 200 shoppers in line an H&M T-shirt and Access to Fashion Pass, valued between $10 and $300, in addition to other surprise offers. Customers who garment recycle on opening day can also enter to win a gift card from $50 to $250.

Kitsap Mall is located at 10315 Silverdale Way NW Silverdale. The store can be reached by phone at 360-698-2555. Store hours will be Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
