Child rescued from stuck elevator

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue responded to a call Monday night about the child stuck in the elevator at Lee Shores Apartments.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue crews rescued a girl on Monday evening who got stuck in an elevator in Silverdale.

Around 9:12 p.m., crews received a call that the child was stuck in an elevator at the Lee Shores Apartments located on Shore Place NW.

The elevator got stuck between the second and third floors, trapping the 10-year-old. Once rescued, the girl said the elevators doors “opened several times while the elevator was going up and then became stuck,” according to a CKFR press release.

“The elevator door couldn’t be forced open because it was partially off the rollers. Power was secured and the elevator key was used to open the outer doors on the fourth floor. Firefighters then used a ladder to climb down to the top of the elevator and open the emergency hatch. The child was assisted out of the top with the use of a harness attached to a belay line,” states the release.

The child was uninjured and was reunited with her family after exiting the elevator shaft. The elevator was shut down and marked with “fire line tape” on all floors, states the release.
