Some Kitsap incumbents don’t file for re-election

Filing week has officially come and gone, and many Kitsap candidates submitted their names for the numerous local seats up for grabs in this year’s election cycle.

Open positions this year include a state senate seat, mayor races in Bremerton and Poulsbo, along with a plethora of city council and school board seats across the county. Some incumbents did not file for re-election, including Bainbridge Island City Councilmember John Quitslund, BI Parks Commissioner Dawn Janow (filed for BI City Council), Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson (retiring), Poulsbo City Councilmember Ed Stern (filed for Poulsbo Mayor), North Kitsap School Boardmember Breane Martinez, Bremerton City Councilmembers Jeff Coughlin (filed for Bremerton Mayor) and Eric Younger, and Bremerton School Boardmember Alyson Rotter.

Kitsap Regional Library’s board previously approved a “levy lid lift,” which will appear on the August primary ballot. If approved, the measure would raise the levy from $0.27 per $1,000 in property valuation to $0.39, to be collected in 2026. Funding would go toward sustaining public library operations and services.
