Kingston High School hires new principal

Previous principal resigned and is now running for school board

North Kitsap School District has announced Craig Brewster as the new principal of Kingston High School, effective July 1.

Brewster’s appointment follows the resignation of current KHS principal Miranda Smallwood at the end of the school year. Smallwood has since filed to run for District 3 of the North Kitsap School Board.

Brewster currently serves as assistant principal at Marysville Getchell High School, where he has helped lead school-wide efforts to strengthen student support systems, redesign intervention structures, and expand access to advanced coursework for underrepresented learners, per a news release.

Before stepping into school administration, Brewster served as Dean of Students, special education teacher, and department head—all at Marysville Getchell. He began his education career as a paraprofessional working with students receiving special education services.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Washington University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Seattle Pacific University.

“I am honored to join the Buccaneer family,” Brewster said. “I’m excited to collaborate with students, staff, and families to continue building a school community where everyone belongs and thrives. I believe in the power of lifelong learning and strive to model that commitment each day, showing that learning never ends. Go Bucs!”

“Mr. Brewster brings thoughtful, community-minded leadership and a student-centered approach that will help Kingston High School continue to grow and thrive,” superintendent Rachel Davenport said. “His leadership reflects what matters most to our Kingston High School community, and we are excited to welcome him to the Buccaneer family.”
