The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, along with representatives from Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, will host an information session from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Sheriff’s Community Resource Office at Kitsap Mall in Silverdale.

Substance abuse program in Silverdale

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, along with representatives from Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, will host an information session from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Sheriff’s Community Resource Office at Kitsap Mall in Silverdale.

The session is to help residents recognize and help those with addictive behaviors related to substance abuse. Information and support is available without question.

Military Officer’s Association luncheon

The Kitsap Chapter of the Military Officer’s Association of America will hold its monthly luncheon on Friday, June 24 at the Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Road NE, Bremerton. A social hour will begin at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at noon with a program to follow.

Beth Ann Daigre, the auxiliary member advisor of the Washington State Council of Chapters for the association will be the speaker for the event. Those interested in attending should RSVP to Myra Lovejoy at (360) 769-2412 by June 17.

Nominations being accepted for Birkenfeld Award

Nominations are being accepted by the Bainbridge Community Foundation until June 24 for the C. Keith Birkenfeld Humanitarian Award — given to the Kitsap resident who best shows commitment in community service and civic leadership. A $25,000 grant accompanies the award for the recipient to give to the charity of his or her choice. Visit www.bainbridgecommunityfoundation.org to submit nominations.

Forum on Parkinson’s disease in Bremerton

An educational forum on Parkinson’s disease by the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation will be presented at 11:30 a.m. June 15 at the Kitsap Conference Center, 100 Washington Ave., Bremerton.

Dr. Monique Giroux, medical director of the foundation, will give the presentation, “Motivation — Overcoming Obstacles for Change.” She will focus on how to live life to the best with Parkinson’s and tips on how to keep motivated. Sierra Farris, a certified physician assistant for 13 years, will present, “Taking Back your Energy — dealing with fatigue.” She will discuss how to manage fatigue and improve daily energy.

The event is free and includes a complimentary lunch. Space is limited. Registration can be made over the phone by calling (877) 980-7500.

Opera lecture series at Sylvan Way library

A three-part lecture series “Three Postwar Operatic Greats,” will be featured at the Sylvan Way branch of Kitsap Regional Library June 11, 18 and 25. All lectures are free and begin at 2:15 p.m. Norm Hollingshead, who has been presenting opera-related lectures for more than 30 years, will focus the series on young singers including Leopold Simoneau, Christa Ludwig and Rita Streich, who rose to fame following World War II.

The Sylvan Way library is located at 1301 Sylvan Way, Bremerton.

Bremerton Planning Committee meeting

The next Bremerton City Council Planning Committee meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. June 14 in the council conference room, located on the sixth floor of the Norm Dicks Government Center, 345 Sixth St., Bremerton.

Council members assigned to serve on this Committee are Greg Wheeler, Dianne Robinson, Will Maupin and Nick Wofford. The Department of Community Development Director is Andrea Spencer, Assistant Director is JoAnn Vidinhar and staff support will be provided by Pam Bykonen.

Bremerton High School alumni reunion luncheon:

The Bremerton High School alumni from the class of 1938 through 1944 invite all past alumni of the high school and friends to the 20th annual reunion luncheon on Tuesday, July 19.

A social hour will begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch to follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Road NE, Bremerton.

The cost for a salmon or roast beef lunch is $22. Checks can be made out to Bremerton High School Alumni and sent to June Smith, 213 Apple St., Bremerton, Washington, 98310. The deadline for receiving payment is July 14.

Bremerton Public Works Committee meeting:

The next meeting of the Bremerton City Council’s Public Works Committee is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14 in the council conference room located on the sixth floor of the Norm Dicks Government Center, 345 Sixth St., Bremerton.

Council members assigned to serve on this Committee include Jim McDonald, Carol Arends, Dianne Robinson and Nick Wofford.
