Respite care supports Bainbridge seniors and their caregivers

Senior living residence offers short-term, temporary stays for respite or post-hospital recovery

If you’re caregiving for a loved one, the job can quickly become all-encompassing. Without the opportunity for a break, the pressure can take a toll on the whole family.

Bainbridge Senior Living is here to help.

The seniors’ residence invites people who are caring for a loved one to take advantage of their respite care, enjoying a rejuvenating break while their loved ones stay with the caring team at Bainbridge, explains Carrie Chavez, the Community Relations Director at Bainbridge, which encompasses Madrona House, Madison House and Wyatt House, all near the quaint downtown Winslow area.

Respite care offers short-term, temporary stays for loved ones whose caregivers need a break and a chance to rest, helping avoid caregiver burnout.

“It’s important for people to know they can bring their loved one here. If they want to go on a vacation, or simply need a break, they can bring their loved one to a trusted place – we are here to take care of them,” Chavez says.

Stays include meals, housekeeping, activities, transportation, licensed care staff 24/7, medical staff, nurses and care plans tailored to each person.

“We do our best to customize every stay so that the clients will feel at home and feel comfortable, including being able to bring their pets,” Chavez says.

In addition to giving caregivers a well-earned rest, respite care can also be ideal for someone recovering from surgery who doesn’t have appropriate care at home.

“It’s perfect for those who need to rest and recover after coming out of the hospital,” Chavez says.

The one-bedroom, kitchenette-equipped apartments are available throughout the year for those needing respite care, or looking for a permanent home.

“We really try to make it as easy as possible for folks, and have the apartment all ready to go when they arrive,” Chavez says. “I love finding a solution that brings peace of mind to a family or anyone who needs help.”

General Manager Jim Fuller adds that respite care can also be a great introduction to senior living. In fact, many have ended up joining the Bainbridge Senior Living family after a visit.

“If people come here to stay for a respite visit or long term, we want them to experience joy. I tell residents, ‘I’m here to give you more joy out of life knowing you are so valued, that you have great wisdom to offer us and we will take care of you.’”
