Lighthouse festival comes to Point No Point County Park July 19

Have a great summer day at The Friends of Point No Point Lighthouse “Footprints in the Sand” event at Point No Point County Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19. As a part of the Washington Lightkeepers Association’s annual Great Lighthouse Hunt 2008, activities will be going on all day at Point No Point including making footprint candles in the sand with the help of Kitsap County Facilities, Parks and Recreation staff.

Bring kites down to fly on the beach, learn more about the Friends of Point No Point and Washington lighthouses, take docent-guided tours of Puget Sound’s first lighthouse, and visit the new headquarters of the U.S. Lighthouse Society in the keeper’s quarters duplex.

On Sunday, July 20, members of the Port Gamble S’Klallam tribe are tentatively scheduled to land a canoe with the S’Klallam dancers, who will perform.

The WLA Great Lighthouse Hunt features tours and special events at lighthouses throughout Washington all summer long. WLA returns to Point No Point Aug. 16 for an official welcoming celebration for the USLHS.

Kitsap County’s favorite lighthouse needs those with an interest in local history to serve as volunteer docents.

Docents are needed at Point No Point Lighthouse, located in Point No Point County Park, Hansville.

The lighthouse is open to the public on weekends, noon to 4 p.m. April thru September. Volunteer docents share its history with people from around the world who visit this historic landmark.
