Is your dog really something special? Need a break from the beaches and trails and some nose-to-nose socializing?
Dogs – and their people – are the celebrants of PAW-Fest, taking over Mike Wallace Park at the Kingston marina from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27.
The event marks the 10th anniversary of Country Pet Shoppe, which is organizing what’s looking to be a doggiepalooza for Kingston at the invitation of the Port of Kingston.
There will be contests for dogs with the longest tail, floppiest ears and the “My Dog’s Sumpin’ Special” dog show, in addition to Shutzund (guard dog), agility, tricks and obedience demonstrations and other fun activities.
“We hope this will be one of the most popular events of the year,” said Stephanie Stebbing, who owns Country Pet Shopped with husband, Mark. “We hope it will be so popular that it will be an annual event.”
“It’s also a resource for activities people can get involved with in the North End and ways people can get out and do things with their dogs,” she said. “The focus will also be on products and services available to pet owners.”
Booths will be set up in the park, offering information on pet health, pet sitters, local animal rescue organizations, dog trainers, animal communicators and products such as treats and clothes.
Some of those scheduled to attend include Apple Tree Cove Animal Hospital, Dr. Bill Larson of Peninsula Mobile Vet, Dianne Canafax, trainer and director of Kitsap Animal Rescue & Education, trainer Shade Whitesel and many more.
Drinking stations (for the dogs!) and pooper scoopers will be available, as well as pools for the dogs to cool off in. Spa services for the pooches will also be offered including nail trimming and tooth brushing.
Dogs – and people – of all ages are invited. Pre-registration for the contests is suggested. For more information, contact Country Pet Shoppe at (360) 297-4165.
