Regarding “Trump is correct in vilifying talking heads,” Feb. 24 North Kitsap Herald:
I am writing to inform Mr. Clemons that the opposition to Trump is not group-think or based on what media’s “talking heads” are saying. The opposition and protests span across all party lines, to all the truly horrified people who listen and recognize the current administration’s numerous, daily lies and distortions.
We are the people who know who Steve Bannon is, what Breitbart stands for, and plainly see the white supremacists who are behind the Trump-loving alt-right and “anti-globalists” (who seek to cleanse this country of immigrants and all descendants of immigrants, except the acceptably “Western” ones). You can find their rhetoric straight from their own mouths all over the internet (often on Breitbart), and more and more on television.
Open your eyes, sir. The majority of America is fighting against the false claims and foolish, white nationalist policies that are being pushed for, as well as wealthy-coddling policy proposals to allow corporations to pollute and rich to glean millions while the poor and sick suffer more and more. We are just like you, only we are paying attention to many sources, while you listen to Trump parrot what Fox News tells him (Are those talking heads acceptable because they tell you what you already believe?). No one man or news source can serve you the truth, and that one would claim to do so should be warning enough not to trust them.
It is fitting that you ended your letter with a bald-faced lie about Obama and his Border Patrol, who (if you read the correction below your letter), rather than shutting down the agency, actually increased its budget by billions and deported more people than any other president in history. This from the sourced snopes.com fact-checking website: “As of 2015, more than 2.5 million undocumented people had been deported by immigration authorities since President Obama took office in 2009, a total which is indeed record-setting.” Don’t turn to the talking heads like Trump for all your information. Try a little bit of simple research (especially before making such public, defamatory claims), or else you may end up with a twisted sense of reality.
As an informed citizen, I can tell you we are fighting against misinformation that advances and protects sinister, harmful policies. We are Americans, not just liberals. We want to save our country, and thus you will never see us stop holding liars accountable. From a young, working-class woman who lives in your small town: If you don’t like the principled, informed opposition that you are seeing, I have tough news for you — you are in for a long four years.
