Sunday afternoon we were cruising Front Street and making comment about the casual atmosphere of the quaint little town by the water. People sitting on park benches eating ice cream cones and others just meandering from shop to shop. Poulsbo always seems to have that feel of friendliness and security. It’s like no matter what is going on with the rest of our lives, a casual stroll through this little town, exchanging smiles and greetings, inspires good thoughts and hope.

Suddenly, right in front of Liberty Bay Books, my trusty old blue Astro Van quit running. Not only did it quit but it would not restart. So here we are, breaking up the tranquil moment and stopping the flow of traffic. The street is busy and there is no available parking at the curb. You want to just disappear and let these people go on about their day.

The next instant there’s a guy at my window saying “turn your wheels to the left and we’ll push you into this parking lot.” I’m moving again but that parking lot is uphill and I wasn’t sure we would make it to the open parking space. I hear voices recruiting more help and lots of huffing and puffing and we made it. I got out of my van just in time to see several people scattering back to their vehicles and on with their lives. I never got a chance to thank them.

I cannot identify those that came to my aid but you know who you are. Thank you so much for your unselfish deed and thank you Poulsbo for creating an environment of frendliness and good will.
