‘Satisfied’ with Dr. Duggal’s care

My name is Marilee Mills, and have lived in the Poulsbo area since 1968. I have been a patient of Dr. Duggal for approximately 10 years.

I have always been completely satisfied with the care I’ve received from Dr. Duggal and his staff, and have consistently recommended him to people who are looking for a good physician in the area. The high regard which I have for him has been confirmed in numerous ways, but especially when I was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in 2006.

After the initial diagnosis, I consulted with Dr. Duggal regarding a surgeon that he could recommend. At the end of our discussion he asked if I had any questions or concerns, and I told him that I was worried that there may be cancer that had spread, or been made to spread due to the biopsy. He told me that I understandably had a lot on my mind, and wanted to do whatever he could to ease my anxiety. He ordered a Cat scan to be done as soon as possible (as I recall, it was the same day) and right afterward arranged for my husband and I to consult with the radiologist, also the same day.

It was such a great help to have someone take the extra steps to help ease my mind while having to deal with all the other emotions that one goes through. During and after chemotherapy, he sat down and talked with me in detail regarding what kind of vitamins and dosages would be best suited for me, and recommended a nutritionist to help get my system built back up.

I find it strange that with the accusations against Dr. Duggal of over-prescribing, I experienced something quite different the day I dropped by his office to get some vitamins. His staff was visibly “shaken up,” and when I asked why, I was told that a gentleman had come in and wanted a refill on his pain medication. When Dr. Duggal told him he would not refill it, due to the fact that he had information that the patient was obtaining prescriptions from other sources that showed possible abuse, the patient became extremely angry, vocal and threatened the staff when he was leaving.

Dr. Duggal has always acted in a professional manner, thoroughly answered any questions I’ve had, and is one of the most knowledgeable doctors I’ve known. These days of the doctors having to enter everything in a computer system immediately has taken away some the relaxed “chit-chat” time that used to be available with all doctors, but again, I have been highly satisfied with his care and demeanor, and would have no hesitation whatsoever in continuing to recommend him, and having him as my family physician.
