Protesters must be resisted

I had the privilege of growing up with PFC Sam Stone, and I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing and disgusted when I read that the Westboro Baptist Church planned to be at his funeral.

On the Westboro Baptist Chuch’s Web site, the organization has a flier advertising the importance of protesting outside of Sam’s funeral.

They state that, “God Hates America and God is Killing our Troops in his Wrath. Thank god for IEDS. This message to be preached in respectful, lawful proximity at the memorial of PFC Samuel D. Stone.”

The link can be found at www.godhatesfags.com/written/fliers/index.html

I feel it is important to raise awareness of their attendence so we can demonstrate the number of people who loved and cared about Sam.

His parents and family have a right to respect and privacy in this difficult time.

We saw what kinds of wonderful things the citizens of Port Orchard can do when they come together to honor a fallen soldier.

I believe it is time we do this yet again.

I know that regardless of the horrific things the Westboro Baptist Church has to say, the pride and honor Port Orchard feels for being PFC Sam Stone’s hometown is overwhelming.
