Keep your pets warm

Can you imagine having to live outdoors when the weather is very cold? Many dogs and cats do. Unless your dog is a breed that originated in a cold country, she can get cold and sick, just like you. Every outdoor pet needs a shelter out of the wind and rain. If you have a doghouse available, make sure there is a bed of straw piled high inside. Straw is a good insulator and needs to be changed regularly. Also, a carpet door is needed to keep out the draft.

Extra helpings of food in cold weather help build a much needed layer of fat to keep animals extra warm. When severe storms are predicted, please bring your pets indoors. High winds, snow and rain can be dangerous and frightening to your pet. It may scare them into a new territory where they may not find their way home.

Your pet is a family member. Take as much responsibility for your pet as you would for your children. Be kind to all creatures. They depend on you.
