It’s time to cut the deadwood from SKSD board

The scores are in and we are not making progress. Our community continues to lose trust and confidence in our school board.

Eight failed bond efforts paint a very clear picture. Student opportunities and academic outcomes are paid less attention to than certain individual board members whose focus is on “pet projects.” There was a time when members of our community were listened to and respected. The board’s decision to support retaining a board member with two DUIs is but one stark example.

Our students’ futures are on the line. OSPI report cards clearly document SKSD student performance over the past four years is flat. There is no improvement in either math or language arts scores. But we can turn this around; we can stop these continued systemic failures in leadership and financial management by this board.

The goal of making SKSD a “top tier” district can be achieved, but it will take a far different board of directors to make this possible.

It’s time to cut the deadwood out of this school board. We know what they say about “the mule” — “There is no education in the second kick.” We are headed for that “third kick” if we don’t make these board changes now.

We don’t need four more years of decline in academic performance and student enrollment. Please vote for Jeff Daily, Glenny Compton and Keith Law for our SKSD board of directors. They will instill both trust and confidence in how our community views this board.
