A disturbing attitude toward transparency

After reading the editorial, “Judge right about Open Records Law,” page A4, Jan. 26 North Kitsap Herald, I have begun to notice the disturbing theme in our government of legislators and officials attempting to withhold basic information that we, the people who voted them in, should probably have.

This is a problem that seems to be common in much of the country, not just our state. It unfortunately appears that in many places, our representatives are eager to skirt around the Freedom of Information Act, which is supposed to hold them accountable for the corruption and hiding records they have a track record of.

The worst part is, Washington is lucky, because at least we have judges and the majority of our legislators condemning these acts, and attempting to strengthen laws that keep them in check. Many states are not so lucky, and either have an apathetic populous, or a group of legislators that don’t care and refuse to change their blatantly corrupt ways.
