Lowe’s celebrated its grand opening Thursday morning. The do-it-yourself retailer opened for business Nov. 28 and offers more than 32,000 products under one roof.
As part of the grand opening festivities, Lowe’s partnered with CKFR and offered 10 percent off smoke alarms, fire escape ladders and fire extinguishers on Thursday.
“We’re all excited that Lowe’s partnered with us to promote fire prevention and protection for the community,” CKFR spokeswoman Theresa MacLennan said.
“I think CK Fire & Rescue is always willing to partner with Lowe’s and other businesses in the community to promote fire safety,” CKFR Assistant Chief Jay Lovato added.
As a company, Lowe’s works with Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, United Way and the Home Safety Council. Representatives from the local Habitat for Humanity and American Red Cross joined CKFR, Costco and a representative from the Kitsap County Commissioners’ office Thursday to celebrate the Silverdale store’s grand opening.
“We’re all in it together, we’re all neighbors,” said Peter Ruckstein, with Lowe’s commercial sales.
Costco spokeswoman Jean Marie Harmon said Costco is happy to welcome Lowe’s to the neighborhood.
“Costco is very excited about having Lowe’s as a new neighbor,” she said. “It’s wonderful to have them right next door.”
Valerie Edmonds, the Silverdale store manager, presented a check for $1,000 to the local chapter of the American Red Cross at the grand opening. Lowe’s and the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation together contributed more than $27.5 million to support community and education projects in the United States and Canada. To date, the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has donated more than $550,000 in the state of Washington, according to the company.
Ruckstein said Lowe’s invited 2,000 people to the Silverdale store Dec. 1 for lunch and the company hosts community appreciation days on a regular basis.
“The community is what keeps us alive,” he said.
Burdette said he was “honored” to cut the board at the Lowe’s grand opening and enjoys being a part of Silverdale’s continued growth.
“It was an honor to do that and we love to help the community and keep the community growing,” he said.
