Moving on up … to Washington Avenue

There’s a lot of moving and shaking going on in Old Town Silverdale.

There’s a lot of moving and shaking going on in Old Town Silverdale.

Seaport Salon & Day Spa is moving from 3388 NW Byron St. to 9130 Washington Avenue in Old Town. Seaport Salon owner Jennifer Horne said she hopes to be up and running in the new location next week, but for now, they are still taking customers at the Byron Street location.

Horne opened Seaport Salon & Day Spa in 2003 and when the building on Washington Avenue became available last year, she decided it was time to move the salon and spa.

“It’s so beautiful,” Horne said of the new location. “I think it looks beautiful.”

The new Seaport Salon & Day Spa now has five hair stylists and several more styling stations than the former Byron Street location. Horne designed the stations herself and the company she bought them from is now selling them as “Seaport Stations.”

Seaport Salon & Day Spa is now only the second salon in Washington to use freestyle hair dryers which hang from the ceiling. The hair dryers turn on when the stylist pulls down on them and they are weightless.

Horne said the shampoo bowls are more ergonomically friendly and customers will find them much more comfortable than standard shampoo bowls.

Seaport Salon & Day Spa used all recycled materials in the new Washington Avenue location. Horne said even the floors were made from recycled materials.

“I don’t want to work in an environment that’s toxic,” she said. “We just really wanted something nice to come in to,” Horne said.

Seaport Salon & Day Spa sells and uses Aveda products. Aveda “strives to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility,” according to the company’s mission statement, and Horne said she wanted the new salon to stay true to Aveda’s goals.

“We stand behind the Aveda mission,” Horne said.

While the product displays, hair styling area, private wax room and manicure and pedicure areas are downstairs, the second floor of Seaport Salon & Day Spa houses all of the spa essentials.

“We just really wanted to separate the salon from the spa,” Horne said.

The spa has two massage rooms, two skin care rooms and a new cedar sauna.

“We went from two treatment rooms to five,” Horne said. “We could work with five guests at one time if we needed to.”

There also is a relaxation area upstairs. Horne said fountains will be installed inside Seaport Salon & Day Spa to add to the relaxed, peaceful feel of the business.

Horne said her husband and his friends put in many hours remodeling the building. She said they have done a lot of work on the building since September and she’s excited customers will soon be able to check out the newly improved digs.

“We’ve had a lot of comments where people have been saying it’s the best place on the peninsula,” Horne said.

Horne, her mother and staff of ladies also worked hard on the landscaping around the building. She said the back deck will be set up where guests can drink tea and relax. Horne also said she plans to host small weddings on the site if people are interested.

“There’s so many salons down here (in Old Town Silverdale) that it’s nice to stand apart. We’re different,” Horne said. “I think it’s really going to be nice for Old Town.”
