Bainbridge’s girls soccer team finished the regular season undefeated in Olympic League play after defeating the Olympic Trojans 4-0 Oct. 26.
Coach Katie Drovdahl called up many underclassmen since the Spartans faced Port Angeles the day before.
Since Bainbridge had new players, Olympic’s high-tempo offense put the Spartans on their heels early. The Trojans took the first shot three minutes into the game.
However, the shot was saved by goalie Emma Ragan. Ragan immediately booted the ball downfield and sophomore Riley Butler broke away before her shot went wide right.
After dominating the first 10 minutes, Bainbridge began to slow down the Trojans. Emma Kilby and Butler forced a handful of corner kicks within a 10-minute span.
With 11 minutes remaining in the first half, Butler received a cross from Kilby and shot the ball in the back of the net to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, defender Elsa Dow dribbled through five defenders before sending a through ball that led to Taylor Mass’ first goal of the night.
The second half slowed down in Bainbridge’s favor. Neither team had a great opportunity to score within the first 10 minutes. However, Mass scored from a rebound on a corner kick with 22 minutes left in the game.
Bainbridge scored one more time with 16 minutes to go when Sam Donlon bullied through two defenders and rifled it into the bottom right corner of the net.
Olympic tried to respond with a last-minute free kick outside the 18-yard box. But Sharon Sanders sailed the ball over the crossbar.
